GENTLY RAPPING AT MY CHAMBER DOOR....
So, about 8 in the morning I hear a rapid series of knocks on the side of the house. I knew enough to run out and take a look!
And I just caught him slipping out of the camera viewfinder!!
Red-headed woodpecker!!
Came to help me with the termites, I expect.

POST-ROXY BURROW

The loss of Roxy spurred me to seek a different kind of comfort in my home... so, with the encouragement of a friend, I selected and purchased an inexpensive but remarkably comfy sofa - complete with storage ottoman!!
The only complaint I could come up with for my new purchase was the fact that it was not exactly "cottagey" enough.
ENTER ROSEMARY TO THE RESCUE!!!
As a housewarming/sympathy gift, my dear sister Rosemary gave me this gorgeous quilt.
To understand the importance of a sofa, it is important to go some time without any place to sit comfortably. When I first came to the Burrow, I had only the futon and the loveseat -which Roxy initially claimed as her own. Eventually, through her illness and decrepitude, Roxy could no longer climb up on the loveseat, so I donated the entire futon, layed out as a bed where she could sleep more or less comfortably, and which was easily covered with washable blankets. This left only the loveseat for me to sit on...and made the living room very cramped.
By the time I surrendered to the need to have her put down, the futon was so full of excrement that I had to throw it out. I managed to find and take delivery of a sofa and ottoman from Big Lots...within minutes of its arrival I was firmly planted in it... and in fact slept on it that night!
To have a home, and a comfortable place to sit are two of the greatest treasures a human being can purchase with money.
The only thing this sofa is missing is my pretty girl snoring beside me on it...but Joey and I enjoy it just the same!

BACK TO WORK!

April 27, 2008 - I'm settling in quite well here. Thoroughly enjoying the closeness to my work. And speaking of work--!!! They threw the most amazing housewarming party for me on my first day back!! They all cooked so the food was incredible! I got lots of cool stuff including this neat little book that has all sorts of good tips for taking care of a home. As soon as I get the scanner up I'll give examples, but its got this great retro (50's) art in it and places to take note of really important things that you don't tend to think about like - where the shut off valves for the gas and water are. But they also gave me a box full on money!!!! Which I am spending very judiciously.

So far, I've purchased a Ashley Cooper quilt (blue and white) which I have been coveting for some time. But I hope to finish off the little bit of kitchen furniture that I need with it.

Its so peaceful here. I feel so content.

Still boxes but much fewer! Located a fun "Goodwill Store" where I got the table, chairs, microwave, microwave stand, rug and a couple other little things for under $200!!! If you look carefully at the loveseat, you can see Roxy....at her leisure.
